Project Brief
To design a health centre & Turkish baths for a local community in the city of Istanbul. Using information and experience gained from a field trip, to design responsively to local culture and urban fabric.

Project description
The chosen site revealed a transition zone from commercial to residential community areas. Gateways were present along the east, west and south points of the community and this site would become the northern gateway.
Locating a Health Centre, Primary School & Turkish Baths on the site serviced both the residential and commercial areas. The scheme created spaces of connection and familiarity along daily commuter routes with shared services and facilities encouraging community interaction and use throughout the year. Inspired by understanding of local culture, the integration of outdoor space into the scheme developed an architecture of courtyards and gathering places.
